About The Event

Please join us for the world premiere of Emily Joy Sullivan's song cycle, "In the Mirror," featuring the infamous evil queen in Snow White's story as well as Mike von der Nahmer and Orian Israelsohn's short opera "Levels," which addresses the evolution of four womens' emotions moving through the pandemic. There will be a short Q & A post-performance. You will receive your link one to two days before the day of the premiere. You only need ONE TICKET per DEVICE.

"In the Mirror" by Emily Joy Sullivan (10 minutes)

Starring soprano Jordan Bowman and pianist Chad Spears

Composer's Note: This is a song cycle based on the "evil queen" stepmother from Snow White. It imagines her psychological trajectory from earlier on through her deciding to send Snow White away - but not (yet) most of the events we know from the traditional Grimms'/Disney story.

"Levels" by Mike von der Nahmer & Orian Israelsohn (11 minutes)

Starring mezzo-soprano Madelein Bowman and pianist Michael McAndrew

Composer/Librettist's Note: Tucked within an apartment building are four lives of four women each struggling with emotional and psychological pain caused by the pandemic. The piece is not concerned with the larger implications of the pandemic, but with the inner turmoil. From an outsider perspective these women are relatively secure with their shelter and food needs. However, psychological pain can affect all and this pandemic has mentally exhausted most of us. Each woman in the piece is trapped in some way. The piece is both a snapshot of the earlier days of the pandemic as well as the psychological process of dealing with such a paradigm shift in society.
